Robert & Mary Turner's A Glimpse of Titus County, Texas History
AMERICAN LEGION POST 210
and
VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS POST 3986 & AUXILLIARY

are honoring veterans buried in Titus County by placing a United States flag at each veteran's grave and documenting information about the veteran from information inscribed on the veteran's marker.   A comprehensive list of veterans buried in Titus County has never been compiled.

They encourage all local veterans to join the ranks of American Legion Post 210 and/or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3986.

Flags for this project must be purchased from donations and volunteer help is needed to place the flags and record each veteran's headstone information.  The Mt. Pleasant High School graduating class of 1967 is assisting in placing flags and recording information, and anyone else who wishes to participate is encouraged to do so.

The posts plan to conduct regular flag placement details to coincide with military holidays or on the Saturday preceding the actual holiday.  The following flag placements are scheduled:

2007

September 8 (Patriot's Day)- Forest Lawn Memorial Park (completed)
November 10 (Veteran's Day) - Cooper's Chapel Cemetery (completed)
December 1 - Nevill's Chapel Cemetery (completed)

2008

May 17 (Armed Forces Day) - Lone Star Cemetery
May 24 (Memorial Day) - Edwards Cemetery
June 14 (Flag Day) - Greenhill Cemetery

Flag placement events are scheduled on the following Saturdays to honor the holidays indicated, but cemeteries to be visited have not been selected yet.  We will update this page will as soon as the schedule is completed, so please check back for updated information.
