This photo, scanned from a faded and cracked tintype, shows Charlies McCamey Gingles driving one of his wagons and teams. Charlie Gingles (March 18, 1842 - February 6, 1918) was wounded during the Civil War and could not work afterwards. After the war, he formed a shipping company and made his living hauling freight from Jefferson to Mt. Pleasant. He employed Negroes who drove other teams and wagons for him.
